As they made their way through the kitchen and onto the porch, she envied Kaveh’s soft-step. Now that they were together, she was doubly certain they were going to get caught. Then they were outside, running barefoot across the patches of sand and grass to the beach. She held her shoes under one arm and helped Kaveh pull the canoe from the boat house.
